Recording is where everything needs to be done right. Like a camera, microphones don't lie, that really is what you sounded like. Of course fixes can be applied later on in the process to cover mistakes made during recording, but the best projects usually need the least amount of fixing later in production. It is because of this that during recording it is essential to keep the musician comfortable and focused on the task at hand. We do our best to minimize your frustration while maintaining professional honesty about your performance. There are many perks to recording with us, below you will find a few:
Microphone SelectionThe first thing your sound hits after leaving your instrument or mouth besides the air it travels in, is the microphone. A poor quality microphone will not pickup the details of your timbre necessary to make an honest reproduction. We have an excellent microphone selection to choose from that will fulfill any sonic need. If you happen to require a microphone we don't have, we can always rent one for you from one of our vendors and pass along to cost to you without adding on an additional charge.

Room AcousticsWith the proliferation of the home studio, it is getting more and more difficult for studios to afford a large and open recording room with amazing acoustics unique to them. It is because of this that many studios, like us, take the "dead room" approach. Our room is tuned to have as little ambiance and noticeable acoustics as possible, allowing us to use techniques derived from physics to create whatever room sound you like using delay and reverb in a precise and subtle manner.

Preamp SelectionIf there is one piece of gear that can shape the sound of a microphone it is the preamp. We have a selection of boutique preamps to choose from, all great for different purposes. We even have preamps that do a terrific job of modeling other preamps. Like microphones, should you require the use of a preamp we do not have, we can always rent one for you from one of our vendors and pass along to cost to you without adding on an additional charge.

Guitar SetupPart of being prepared to record is having a prepared instrument. We always inspect the setup and intonation of ever guitar we record before we begin. This prevents any pitch issues that are commonly discovered during mixing. If you would like us to adjust your truss rod and action, or replace the strings while we are at it, we would be more than happy to while we have our tools out.
|
Drum SetupDrums with old uneven heads will sound as you would expect them to. We recommend new heads to every drummer we work with and we would prefer to set them up for you if you are willing to let us. We can apply whatever degree of tension you prefer. We will work with you so that you understand the impact that the different tensions have on the playability and tone of your drums, so you can record with your kit sounding exactly as you want it to.

Click or No ClickIt is always a time saver, especially when it comes to editing, to use a click track. As part of our preproduction we will help to determine the tempos of your music so a click can be used. If you prefer to take a more organic approach and go without a click, that's not a problem. We have the ability to have your other musicians play along silently and record to a scratch track to keep everyone in the groove.
